A fair audience recording of the evening performance, compromised by a good bit
of obtrusive audience chit chat and all manner of flaws and glitches. The
beginning of Lay Lady Lay is clipped as is Oh, Sister. Oh, Sister is also
split between the A and B sides of the tape. The end of Isis is also clipped.
There's a brief glitch near the end of Just Like A Woman; a couple (one of
which lasts several seconds) at the onset of Oh, Sister; and yet another during
Like A Rolling Stone.
Unquestionably, this tape is a bit rough around the edges. Nevertheless, it's
a most interesting recording as the performance was also being filmed for a
television special. In fact, the air is more that of an impromptu rehearsal
before a small audience than that of a scheduled performance. Aside from some
lengthy gaps between sets, Dylan stops mid way through Tonight I'll Be Staying
Here and, after consulting with the musicians, starts over. A first attempt at
It Ain't Me Babe is similarly aborted, only to start over at the beginning.
The set order is certainly atypical. The tape appears to be continuous from
Lay, Lady, Lay through Knockin' On Heaven's Door; and from Oh, Sister through
It Ain't Me Babe after which I believe I detect just a hint of the beginning of
A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall. Dubbed by RP 07/03/97. 90 min.
